This dress does not go with this cup, but they would make a pretty good pair anyway♥

It’s cold, cold, cold, cold & cold. Did I mention that it’s cold?. It’s too cold to venture out from beneath this big blanket, definitely too cold to go looking for the extension cord I need to plug in the pickle {As the sign in the metals studio I learned in declared: “Pickle is an ACID!”} in its new location off of the kitchen.
It’s too cold to get up and sit at the bench, which is well-placed next to the heater in the living room…except that I don’t control the thermostat to the heater in the living room. Thanks to the excellent wiring in this house, our top floor flat is at the mercy of the tenants in 1 & 2, who apparently have an ample sweater collection, and no inclination to turn up the heat. I need to bribe them somehow.
In the meantime, I’m drinking lots of tea, & enjoying enormous maple bars from:
Top Pot Donuts, which are not warm, but are so delicious they make me forget that my hands are freezing.
Ideas for keeping warm during the holidays:
Jme Tea, from Williams-Sonoma, in Assam, above, or Passion Fruit Mango…which I might not drink during the winter, but I bet it would mix well with lemonade next July.
Ooooo mulling spices. I’m looking forward to December, when I will be curled up on the couch in a pile of satsumas & a gigantic mug of hot cider. This year, we will be making our own mulled cider – a first for me – and I plan to keep it on the stove all winter long.
Btw, have you seen Hello Naomi? Her bio reads “I am a robot programming computer engineer turned baker, cake decorator and party stylist”. I love it.

All Saints. They’ve been a whitewashed, fake-brick facade on the corner of Pine and Fifth/Fourth? until I stumbled downtown this morning and discovered the coolest storefront I’ve ever seen. {I walk by Anthro every day, and this made me swoon more than them. Come to think of it, I probably shouldn’t walk by Anthropologie every day. Bad habits.}
I have no pictures of the floor to ceiling Singer sewing machines that take up the enormous windows at the corner of the building. It was a choice between hot tea or pictures, & hot tea won the first round.
I haven’t even seen the clothes in person, & I know this is going to be a mixed blessing.
{Regarding the photo above; the AllSaints site doesn’t allow the reproduction of their photos, so you get more pictures of Washi tape!}

Halloween is coming!
In everything that’s going on over the last couple weeks, you know what I’m so happy to have? Smartwool socks and tights. Love them. Having a violent, anti-moth rampage in our house to protect them. It’s good to have a moth-eating cat.
Did you know Smartwool makes outerwear and tops? I love this, and this.
Random: Chart of the Mariana Trench, stumbled upon via MightyGirl.

This is my favorite necklace I’ve made so far! Carnelian & Labradorite, wrapped with sterling silver.
I was downtown early before work last week and ducked into Anthro to dig through the sales rack. {You know it’s bad news when the sales associates grin at you and say “We haven’t seen you in forever! It’s so good to see you!”}
Identical dresses, one in plum, the other in a medium grey, they are 100% felted Merino wool, on sale, just put out, the only two XS’s in the entire store. They layer perfectly, and make me happy. ♥
Isn’t that a great way to start Autumn?

It’s officially getting cold, with promising bits of haze in the morning burning away into warmer afternoons.
Because I never seem to be content with what I have, I’d like a comfy draped dress by James Perse. ♥

I kind of love these ♥ The name of the shop: “Sometimes She Does”. Very cute. She makes other lovely things too, but I think that the best of the lot are the lollipop bowls. They’re simple, whimsical and cute, without having too much going on.

Grey Friday tones: Etsy. Followed by more Etsy.
After a too-hot start to the week, Seattle is grey once again. I’m starting to pull out my sweaters and long pants & looking longingly at my boots. There’s every chance that when I stumble out of work, it will be sunny and warm, so more planning is required than a simple sweater and Smartwool-socks based outfit.
It’s an obvious trend here that my posts wouldn’t be complete without something from Anthro. I give the the Dried leaves dress in grey felted wool, with little felt flowers at the neckline, which aren’t annoying at all. Because I’m a sartorial masochist I went in, tried it on, hugged it, and put it back. It broke my heart a little. I recommend that you get a size down – because of the material, you run the risk of looking like you’re wearing a well-tailored sack if it’s too big.
I want to wear it & wander around Capitol Hill taking pretend-pictures with this camera, & wearing this upcycled felt scarf:

More Thimble & Acorn, because I love them so.
Day two of an amazing class with Nanz Aalund; I made a filigree bead late yesterday that I’m fairly proud of, and today promises to be even more exciting! {More exciting than a filigree bead? Wow!}
My first piece ever will go up for sale on my Etsy shop this week!

I was meant to wear dresses. They’ve become my favorite wardrobe basic, and I’m unwittingly becoming known for them around town. Going from a tomboy-type closet, with three pairs of GAP jeans, one pair of sneakers, and an endless supply of black baggy shirts, the fanciest thing I rolled into 2005 with was a collection of Nine West knee high socks. A lot has changed in the last five years, as I evolved my wardrobe & became an adult.
Thimble & Acorn {love the name} on Etsy is a new favorite. It’s lovely, in a very utilitarian way; love it.
This top is also haunting me:
